Getting started
Setting up on the first day
- On the Team tab, add each technician's first name.
- On the Board, tap names to check people in as they arrive. The first to arrive is first in line.
- When a walk-in comes in, the "Next walk-in" panel names who should take them. Tap "Full walk-in" or "Half walk-in".
- When the service is finished, tap "Done" on that person's card. Amounts are optional.
Can I try it before entering my own team?
Yes. Settings → Load sample day fills today with a sample Saturday and sets the owner PIN to 1234. When you are done, use Settings → Clear today, then change or turn off the PIN under Owner PIN.
Turns and rules
How does the app choose who is next?
Among technicians who are checked in, not on a break and not with a client, it picks the one with the fewest turns (or, if you choose that rule, the lowest service total entered). A tie goes to whoever has been free the longest, then to whoever checked in first. The sentence under the name always says which of these decided it.
Do requests count as a turn?
Not by default. A client who asks for a technician by name is logged as a request and shown separately in the Tally. To count requests as turns, switch on "Requests count as turns" in Settings.
What happens when someone arrives late?
By default a late arrival starts level with the lowest turn count of the people already there, so they are not given every walk-in that follows. You can change this to "Start from zero" in Settings.
A rule change didn't change earlier turns. Why?
Rule changes apply from the moment you make them and are written to the log. Turns given earlier stay as they were, so the record matches what happened at the desk.
Fixing mistakes
I tapped the wrong button
Right after a one-tap action an Undo bar appears for a few seconds. Later, open the Log, find the entry and tap "Void...". Give a reason; the entry stays in the log, crossed out, and the board is worked out again as if it had not happened.
Someone's turn count is wrong
On their card, tap the "..." button, then "Adjust turns...". Step the count up or down in half turns and give a reason. The adjustment is logged and can be voided later.
I forgot the owner PIN
The PIN cannot be shown or recovered, because only a one-way hash of it is stored. If you still know it, you can change or turn it off in Settings. If not, deleting and reinstalling the app removes the PIN, and also removes all of the app's records on that iPad.
Records and exports
How do I export the day?
Open the Tally tab, choose the day from the calendar menu, then tap CSV or PDF to open the share sheet. The CSV opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets.
Is the Tally a payroll record?
No. It adds up the numbers staff typed in. Salon Turns does not calculate wages or commission, does not calculate hours, and does not handle money.
Does it need Wi-Fi, or sync between iPads?
It works without any internet connection. Version 1.0 keeps its records on one iPad and does not sync between devices.
