john@johnvdoan.comStart with one room and don't try to be thorough. Tap Photograph a room, take a picture of everything you can see, and stop. You can name and value the items later — the photos are the part that's hard to recreate after a loss. Most people get their highest-value room done in about ten minutes.
Open a room and tap +, or use the capture bar to shoot several photos in a row and turn them into items afterwards. Only a name is required; every other field can wait.
A photo, a description, and what it would cost to replace new are the core. Beyond that, a receipt, the brand and model, a serial number, and the purchase date all make an item easier to substantiate. The Report tab shows how many items are still missing each of these.
Go to the Report tab, choose what goes in (the whole home, one room, only high-value items), pick how much photo detail you want, and export. You get a PDF with a cover summary, a room-by-room schedule, and a photo appendix. There is no page cap, no watermark, and no upgrade prompt.
Yes. Every export, every item, every photo, every time. There is no paid tier.
Yes. The Report tab also exports a detailed CSV for a spreadsheet, and Settings has a full backup of everything you've entered, including your photos.
Yes, through your own iCloud account, as long as those devices are signed into the same Apple Account. (A Mac version is planned for a later release.) There is no Homefolio account and no Homefolio server — the developer never sees your inventory. See the Privacy Policy.
Add a warranty end date to an item and it appears on the Warranty tab. Turn on reminders and the app asks permission, then schedules local notifications before a warranty runs out. They're created and delivered entirely on your device.
Yes. Turn on Face ID / Touch ID in Settings to require authentication each time the app opens.
No, and it won't guess. Homefolio records what you own and what you say it's worth. It does not calculate depreciation or actual cash value, and it can't tell you what your policy covers or what a claim is worth — only your policy documents, your licensed agent or broker, and your insurer can. Some categories, such as jewelry, are often capped by policies regardless of value; the app flags those so you know to ask, not to answer for you.
If iCloud sync was on, sign into the same Apple Account on a new device, install Homefolio, and your inventory comes back. This is also why the app nudges you to export a backup and keep a copy somewhere other than your home.
